Alleynian Rugby Cubs

Welcome
CUBs is the youngest age group at Alleynian Rugby. It gives little ones an introduction to the wonderful world of rugby in a fun and safe environment.

Approach
We want kids to enjoy their first experience of rugby so the emphasis is on having fun, building confidence and living the core rugby values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

When
The sessions are between 10-11am on Saturday mornings. We run it on all the Saturdays during term time.

Where
Old Alleynian Football Club in Dulwich SE21 7HA. Please drive in where you see the sign as you drive along the A205. There is parking at the end of this drive.

Age group
CUBs is for Reception age boys and girls who have their 5th birthday between Sept 1st, 2019 and Aug 31st, 2020 and is also open to Pre-Reception children beginning the term after their 4th birthday. If your child is not yet four, they are not eligible for CUBs unfortunately. Older children are invited to join the U6’s sessions held on Sunday mornings instead (visit U6's page)

Cost
The season runs over the 3 school terms and the cost is £160 for the season. There are discounts if you have more than one child at Old Alleynian Rugby.

Coaches
Coaching is on a volunteer basis and it’s usually the case that the coaches are parents of the kids themselves. The coaches for the 2019/20 season are Ben, Marty, Oli and Bob. All coaches have undertaken a DBS check and clearance to work with children.

Registration
The club is introducing a new registration system for this season that isn’t quite ready so please just email Marty using the link below to let us know if your child is coming and we will be communicating the registration process in the next week or so. It’s expected that you will also be able to pay the fees through this system.

FAQ’s:
What if my child doesn’t like it?
Bring your child along for a few sessions to see how they get on. There’s no pressure to sign up. Everyone is invited to come along and any child can come along for up to 3 sessions before you need to pay.

Could my child get hurt?
While there is always a possibility of injury during physical exercise we are very careful to organise the activities to reflect the age of the children to minimise any risks.

Is it for boys and girls?
Yes absolutely. We welcome little boys and girls.

Do we have to join at the beginning of the season?
No we have kids join all the time so please feel free to come along when it suits you.

Do the CUBs play matches?
No. At this early age the focus is more on giving an introduction to rugby. At their age it is too young for them to participate in any kind of competitive matches.

What should we bring?
We have frequent breaks during the session so please bring along a water bottle and some light snacks for your child.

What about the weather?
We would cancel if the ground was flooded or frozen, if there is snow or we have very low temperatures but generally we would hold the session in rain. In that case the kids should wear rain jackets for the sessions.

What kit does my child need?
The most important thing is the kids are happy and comfortable so please dress them accordingly. At the beginning and end of season the kids can wear trainers but typically the kids will wear studded shoes when the weather is soggy. Also hats and gloves are a good idea as little hands get cold easily in the colder months.

Do I need to stay at the club during the session?
Yes. As the children are very young it’s important that the parents stay close by on the sidelines – this helps the children relax and obviously helps if there is any kind of emergency.

What are the actual dates for the sessions?
Autumn Term: Sep 7th – Dec 7th 2019 (not Oct 26th or Nov 2nd for half term break)
Spring Term: Jan 11th – Mar 21st 2020 (not Feb 15th or Feb 22nd for half term break)
Summer Term: Apr 25th – Jun 27th 2020 (not May 23rd or 30th for half term break)

How can I get involved as a parent?
We are always looking for new coaches so if you would like to become one please speak to one of the existing coaches.

What happens at the end of the season?
We look back fondly at all we’ve learned together and the fun we’ve had. We also traditionally have a BBQ with the parents and kids when the kids can also celebrate receiving their end of season medal.
